Svend Bayer

Michael Cardew said of Svend Bayer:
"I speak of him with awe and fear. He is more than just a potter, he is a force of nature. Everything comes to him so easily. Now one could say 'ah, this kind of facility must be dangerous to his talent'. Then you can say the same about the infant Mozart. I'm not saying that Svend is Mozart. What I do say is that he is easily my best pupil and I believe that his extreme facility will be very useful to his talent."

Two of David Stannard's Alaskan porcelainstone bowls.......

The one on the left fired to cone 10 in an electric kiln, the one on
the right fired to cone 8 in reduction in a gas kiln. In both cases
the body is Silver Fox hydrothermally altered rhyolite 100%, and
glazed with the body with 15% Limestone added. the one on the right
is quite translucent, and both ring for a long time when struck.

Oribe Mukozuke @ the Guimet Musée

This little(5" across) mukozuke from the Motoyashiki kiln in Tajimi
had a pronounced copper red just in the overlap between the
feldspathic grey glaze and the heavy copper glaze in the corners,
diluting the copper enough to produce the red.

Sometimes they say a photo is worth a thousand words. I'll attach one to
this email. I like to use a bowl to make my spouts it is squeezed together
and cut to form a spout. It's similar to a folded out milk carton spout.
