Shino firing schedule with oxidising firedown

Shino firing schedule with oxidising firedown

Here is the firing schedule of well known Shino potter Hayashi Masataro (or
possibly Seitaro). This graph and accompanying pictures shows the colors
obtained from a shino firing with an extra 'fire down' period.
The pure white sample were pulled when the firing was complete, before the
fire down. the samples with the nice fire color were pulled at near the end,
at 900C, after the 25 hour fire down period. In case it's not visible in the
photo, 27 hours to 950C, 30-35 hours to 1250, hold at 1250 for 30-35 hours,
fire down for 25 hours, turn off burners at 900C. The potter goes on to say
that with the fire down period, he'll get at least 50% with very nice color.
